Hi,
I should have written a follow up to this one. The rod finally arrived, but this 2 piece rod had turned into a 5 piece rod. And the seller finally chose to refund me what I had paid for it. And that was not a problem. So I do not think our cases are related.

Good luck with your particular scumbag though.

Hello, Jon from the UK here; I found this article after being defrauded by a person claiming to have a Greys Greyflex on Gumtree. I paid £40 (used, but obviously too cheap), and of course nothing arrived. The email address & phone # both ceased to work immediately. There is a similarity here. Now 8 days ago, on Gumtree, (owned by Ebay; shock, huh?) appeared an ad for an ABU 464 rod. This is without a shadow of doubt the same person again. I'd be grateful if you would contact me, as I intend to involve the police to try and trap this foul little criminal.
Sincerely & mvh

You may like to keep an eye on a New Zealand site...www.trademe.co.nz the 7000 has been used since it came out at the mouth of the salmon rivers to fish the surf by a lot of people, sometimes they come up for sale on this site

I bought an ABU 7000 in 1976 with spare reel etc and have used it constantly to present date. After a fishing trip I dismantle it (as i do woth all my reels), wash, dry and oil it and it still looks and works like new. The only parts i have replaced are the friction blocks. Spares came with the reel in '76. A beautifully made reel. I also have a ABU Mag II, ABU 12, a 2500C and a 5500C all purchased in the 70's and all working like clocks.
The best reels in the world!

Thats not the whole show really. I currently use a sturdy plastic box to stow all the fish finder stuff in it, and when in the boat it doubles as a waterproof box for the battery. The one I use kept going for 11 sollid hours fishing last time I was out, and was down to 12.5V from fully charged. So a solar panel is not needed. Becides...this is the arctic. the sun is not out that much...

Anyway, a cooler box would be much sturdier so that a good idea..thanks a lot.

Nice arrangement of the equipment in such a small place. I have had an arrangement similar to this for the past few years. Just a bit of advice though. For the fish finder why don't you use a drink cooler bought from the store as a mount for your fish finder? I mounted my fish finder on top of the cooler with a small solar panel t replenish the battery. Inside the cooler I put the batter for a small lawn tractor. I drilled a hole out the back of the cooler to accommodate the transponder cable. When you are done fishing it gives you a place to put your transponder, screen, and any maps and charts you use out on the water. It even keeps your lunch and beer cool too!!!

One thing after reading the comments that you and the other site's servicing guide, I would like to suggest that anyone that owns an Ambassadeur and uses it often should drill a hole at the bottom of each side plate with a 1mm drill piece, this allows water to escape the inside of the side plates and prevents corrosion due to water stagnating inside. Furthermore applying a slight film of grease to the edge of these plates, and before setting these plates creates a water tight gasket to further resist water ingress into the reels. Grease can act as a barrier to dissimilar metals and when water is eliminated from the equation, less corrosion will be noticed.

I love my 5 Ambassadeurs that much that I service them myself to such a degree of quality and consistency, that its considered priceless!
