The Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal affairs have finally decided to get their collective finger out of where the sun does not shine, and get rid of the king crabs.
In a press release issued today, they have set aside NOK 5 million, towards exterminating the king crab. The funds will be spent on hiring fishing vessels that will conduct targeted fishing for king crab west of 26° east (North Cape).
The fishing vessels will primarily target king crabs of little commercial value, and thus not prioritized by commercial vessels that partake in the free fishing for king crab. The directorate of fisheries will administrate the funds.
