The Ambassadeur 7000i Ratchet Problem

I have previously made a mini-review of the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 7000i C3. During that review I wrote that I have not come across much if any negative about this reel, other than it being made in China. Except “Rob” on the World Sea Fishing forum, who advised me that the 7000i series of reels from Abu Garcia had a weak bait clicker, and that sooner, rather than later, I would get to experience it.
It turns out Rob was right. On my last fishing trip, the clicker suddenly did not click. And when sliding the nob down to “on” there was no resistance, let alone a reassuring “click” to tell me it was indeed on.
I did not panic much, as this Rob also let on that he had a solution. So a quick PM to him trough the World Sea Fishing Forum, and my ratchet/clicker was fixed.
Here is how (the paragraphs correpond with the pictures from top to bottom)
1.Open up the side cover of the reel that is oposite the power handle by un-screwing the 3 small screws. Make sure you do not lose the tiny washers for the screws.
2. Inside the lid you will se this very simple mechanism for the clicker. As you can see, the pin that engages the clicker has slid under the U-shaped washer, instead of grabbing both sides of the ratchet pin.
So when you slide the knob down, it just slides under the washer.
3. Simply loosen the screw that holds the washer in place and carefully bend it slightly.
When that is done, put everything back in it’s place. If it does not fix it, Rob is letting on that he has a more radical solution.
